4A Welcome M.J. Kinane - TY Equine Studies

Retired jockey Michael Kinane recently visited our school to speak to 4A about their Equine Studies module. Michael enjoyed a long and illustrious career and won virtually every big race. He was undoubtedly a master of his profession and a true ambassador for Ireland on the international sporting scene. During his career in the saddle, Michael worked for trainers such as Dermot Weld, Aidan O' Brien, Henry Cecil, Sir Michael Stoute and John Oxx. He rode some of the finest thoroughbreds in recent history - the likes of Sea The Stars, Galileo, Vintage Crop, Montjeu and many more. Michael explained how he became a jockey and how he remained motivated for such a long period. He recently retired and now breeds horses on his farm. Indeed he bred the Derby winner Authorised. It was a priviledge to meet and chat with such a sporting legend and it was a truly interesting learning opportunity for the students. A big thank you to Michael for visiting CPC. S. Dowling (TY Equine Studies Teacher)
