Poverty Week
Some Transition Year students volunteered to participate in Poverty Week as part of Social Awareness Week. There were a wide range of detailed rules to allow students to appreciate the reality of living with poverty. One of the hardest aspects of the week was not being allowed to use any electronic devices. It made life very boring! One student commented that he now felt better about supporting charities such as Trocaire as poor people genuinely have a very difficult life. Some of the rules were tough to follow and the daily poverty alerts such as being told that food aid had been hijacked by rebels and therefore students would only have half of the already small portion of dinner made things even more challenging.
