Michael Garry House for the Homeless
As part of our social awareness week, project director Paul Hutchinson kindly gave of his time to visit us to talk about the work of Michael Garry House for the Homeless. Paul told us about the service offered to clients. The house can accommodate up to sixteen people including families. He told us that the youngest client had been a one month old baby with his nineteen year old mother and the oldest had been an eighty six year old man. One of the main reasons people become homeless in Paul’s experience is addiction problems. The recession unfortunately has increased these difficulties with the house busier than ever. He explained that the project only receives thirty nine thousand euros from the government each year to run this vital service while it actually costs one hundred and fifty thousand euros. We really enjoyed listening to Paul speak about his work and hope to assist with fundraising activities in the future.
