Model European Debate

Students from Cross and Passion College, Kilcullen recently joined with schools from across Ireland to negotiate at a Model European Council on the draft resolution,'All EU Member states should convert 20% of private cars to electricity by 2020'. Emily Boland, Aoife Bond, Eoghan Stafford and Dylan Kavanagh represented the school. The final outcome was a vote against the proposal. The event was held in Dublin Castle and attended by twenty nine schools from fourteen counties and Northern Ireland. Before the debate the teams were briefed by real diplomats of the member states they were representing. The Council was opened by Minister for European Affairs, Dick Roche TD and chaired by Ruairi Quinn TD. One of our speakers Eoghann Stafford was complimented by Chairperson Ruairi Quinn TD on his response to a point made by another member state. It was a very interesting and exciting day with excellent debate.
