On the 24th of November all the 5th Year students attended a talk given by Zoltan Zinn Collis, a survivor of Bergen Belsen concentration camp. During World War II, this concentration camp was the scene of the world’s largest mass murders.
He described the terrifying journey to the camp and although he was only five, these horrifying memories stayed with him. He told us of his family and the loss of four of his family members. He then showed us film footage of the liberation of Bergen Belsen. The scenes seized the attention of every 5th Year student and even though we had heard a lot about the Holocaust, we never imagined anything like what we saw.
Listening to Zoltan’s heartbreaking story brought the effects of the Holocaust into sharp focus. He demanded and kept the attention of over one hundred students as we listened to his shocking but true story.
