Senior Hockey Off To Good Start

Our opening match of the season took place on Monday September 17th in Loreto, Foxrock. Although the Kilcullen girls had a strong opening and retained the majority of possession, Loreto were dangerous on the counter attack time and time again. After a period of several goal scoring chances for Cross and Passion College, Loreto finally opened the deadlock against the run of play after 15 minutes. Kilcullen had to lift their game in the second half if they were to salvage anything and the girls did exactly this. Emily Vaughan dominated more and more at centre back and Trina Duggan was making exciting runs up the right wing, creating excellent interchanges with Sinead Maher. Annie O’ Toole was unlucky not to finish on several occasions but the break finally came Kilcullen’s way with 10 minutes to go. The goal was the result of a fantastic passage of play from the defence right through to the forwards and was finally finished by the on-form Kathryn Weir. The final score was a 1-1 draw but this Kilcullen side show real promise for the season ahead.
