One second you're in, one second your out!
Last friday the under 16 girls of CPC Kilcullen and Moyne Community
School played a Leinster final in which all that is good about any sport at
any level was evident in abundance. Skill, committment, excitement and
determination were displayed from first minute to last. Moyne went 1-0 up
with a speculative long range shot, Kilcullen equalised before half time.
Kilcullen go 2-1 up with about 10 minutes to go and have one hand on the
trophy until Moyne equalise with the very last kick of the match to bring
us into extra time. Moyne go 3-2 up inside a couple of minutes of extra
time, and with the very last kick of extra time Kilcullen force a penalty
shootout...3-3!
Into penalties, Kilcullen score, Moyne miss! Kilcullen miss, Moyne
score..1-1; Kilcullen score, Moyne score..2-2; Kilcullen miss, Moyne score
2-3! Kilcullen miss, Moyne miss; Kilcullen miss, Moyne are champions!..3-2
on penalties! No shame whatsoever in such a great loss! It will make it all
the sweeter when we eventually win our first Leinster soccer title.
