What an amazing comeback!
In an enthralling match today, the boys Senior soccer team came back from the dead to beat a shell-shocked Newbridge College side who thought they had done enough to reach the Midlands league final. Newbridge started the match with all guns blazing and raced into a two-nil lead in the first five minutes! A penalty and another goal had Newbridge 4-0 up within the first quarter.
But Kilcullen wouldn't give up. Chances went abeggin' before we got on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal from Ronan Toft. Fionn Dowling added another to leave it 4-2 at the break. Whoever scored first after the break would take the initiative and a lovely half volley from Padraig Fogarty ensured that CPC would be pressing for the equaliser. Newbridge couldn't stem the flow of attacking football from CPC and the fourth goal duly arrived from a well-placed effort from Barry Jacob. The Kilcullen lads were in the ascendancy now and pressing for the winner. Keith Kinsella was the man to eventually get the team into the lead and despite a late flurry from Newbridge, Kilcullen broke to score their sixth through Fionn Dowling again. An amazing turnaround. Well done to all the panel on a fantastic match.
