The photograph shows the sun shining through Noel Scullion's sculpture at sunrise on March 20th - Spring Equinox 2009. The sculpture is based on an iron age spearhead found at nearby Dun AIlinne during excavations there in the 1960's/70's. Dun AIlinne itself is clearly visible from the top floor of Cross and Passion College. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the country and is believed to have been a major ceremonial site in Leinster in prechristian times. The sculpture, located at the Athy road entrance to Kilcullen, is aligned so that the rising and setting sun will shine through it at the Spring and Autumn Equinox.
